In September 2026, astronauts taking part in the Artemis III mission will be able to perform their spacewalk dressed in Prada. This is the information that emerges from the press release sent by the Italian brand and which reveals its collaboration with the American company Axiom Space, a NASA partner.
“Our elite teams have redefined spacesuit development, opening new perspectives for innovative solutions, while applying cutting-edge design,” said Matt Ondler, president of Axiom Space. He adds: “We have broken old patterns. The Axiom Space-Prada partnership has set a new standard for cross-industry collaboration, further expanding the boundaries of what is possible in commercial space.”
Long-term collaboration
According to Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group Marketing Director and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, this is the first step in a long-term collaboration with Axiom Space.
The brand shared its knowledge of high-performance materials, features and tailoring techniques. Prada’s teams were responsible for product design and development and worked with Axiom Space engineers on material recommendations and custom features. Above all, the contribution of one of the most popular luxury brands at Fashion Weeks made it possible to combine cutting-edge technologies with an attractive aesthetic and an increased level of comfort.
With space tourism already a reality for a handful of ultra-wealthy individuals, it is easy to imagine that other luxury brands with recognized expertise will also collaborate with aerospace engineers.
For Axiom Space, its collaboration with Prada “is a perfect example of how the commercial space industry is enabling non-traditional partnerships to enhance space exploration capabilities.” The company also says that since receiving its first Artemis mission order in 2022, worth $228 million (€209 million), Axiom Space has capitalized on the public-private agreement with NASA, seeking out renowned experts from various industries to help develop and design this next-generation spacesuit.
